Tickets are now on sale for the British Figure Skating & Synchro Championships, which take place at iceSheffield on 26 November to 2 December. Tickets will also be available on the day at iceSheffield’s reception desk.
The event will be a chance to see the IW’s synchronized skating teams in action for the first time this season. Wight Jewels will be competing at junior level, and Wight Crystals at advanced novice level. All the synchro events take place on Monday 26 November, with competitions starting at 10.57am with the junior short programmes.
This year the junior synchro looks even more exciting. Not only is there now a third junior team, with Dumfries team Solway Stars entering the event, but last season’s close contest between the current champions, Wight Jewels, and Nottingham’s Icicles promises to continue.
Wight Crystals will face an advanced novice group that includes Altrincham’s Twizzles, Dumfries’ Solway Eclipse, and Nottingham’s Shadows.
Icicles and Shadows were in action on 10 and 11 November at Compiègne in the 2012 French Masters: http://www.scco.fr/masters.html. The winners at junior level with 102.98 points were French team Black Diam’s (results: www.csnps.org); Nottingham Icicles were second with 86.17; they scored 91.48 at Lee Valley in October. Last season Black Diam’s scored 87.66 at the Masters and 87.29 at the JWCC, so this year’s programme elements may well lead to generally higher scores – probably up by 20% or so.
Also of interest will be former IW skater Charlotte Aiken with ice dance partner Josh Whidborne, competing in the senior dance. Charlotte and Josh, previously junior champions, have already been hard at work in European competitions this season, building up experience at senior level.
Charlotte’s brother Henry with ice dance partner Mina Zdravkova will also be at the championships competing in the junior dance.
The ice dance competitions will be resolved on 1 and 2 December.
