IW fans of ice dance will no doubt be taking a close look at the 2012 Rostelecom Cup in Moscow this weekend, from 9 to 11 November. It’s not because there are any IW skaters taking part in this ISU Grand Prix event but because British ice dance champions Penny Coomes and Nicholas Buckland are due to compete.
Coomes and Buckland will be competing later this month in the British championships, pitting them against former IW skater Charlotte Aiken and her partner Josh Whidborne. Coomes and Buckland’s score in Moscow will give other British championship hopefuls an idea of what scores will be necessary when their events take place at the British on 1 and 2 December. Aiken and Whidborne, along with other British couples, have already been competing this season in Europe and have an idea of where they stand.
Coverage of the event begins on Eurosport 2 in the UK from 15:00 to 18:00 today. It continues on Saturday 10 November from 10.00 to 11.30 and 16:30 to 20:00 on the main Eurosport channel. Sunday’s coverage of the ladies’ free is at 02:00 (yes, 2am) on Eurosport 2, with the gala at 17:30 to 19:00 on Eurosport.
