IW skaters turned in another successful performance at Lee Valley opens this weekend (Saturday 12 May), taking a hat trick of trophies as well as a silver medal. With group sizes of up to 18 skaters for many classes, the achievements of the IW skaters were particularly notable.
Maggie Read was the first IW skater to impress the judges, receiving her best ever scores. Skating first in the event’s largest class, she held off all the other competitors to win the Sparkles Cup for beginner girls aged 11 years and over.
The Alice Rayner Cup for level 1 girls aged 10 and under went to Yelena Brown, who also achieved high marks after skating first in her group.
The level 3 boy’s competition saw 11-year-old Archie Bicknell in excellent form and placed first after skating a technical programme with two axel jumps.
In the artistic competitions, Nicole Hinton came second with her interpretation of Doll on a Music Box from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
