The IW Ice Dance & Figure Skating Club’s skater of the month for April is Steve Wood.
An inspiration to many, Steve represented the Isle of Wight at the British Inclusive Skating Championships. Not only did he represent the club, he absolutely smashed it, winning not one but two British titles – he won the level 4 compulsory elements and the level 4 free skate.
Steve has been a member of the IW skating club for many years and has skated in Christmas shows and helped out behind the scenes. With the closure of Ryde Arena, Steve is one of the many skaters who now have to train at Gosport rink. His gold medals at the inclusive championships are a result of hard work and determination to follow your dreams no matter what life throws at you.
Coach Terri Smith said: “Steve is a true pleasure to teach and such a hard working guy. Especially considering he has been continuing to train with me at Gosport since our home rink closed on the IW 17 months ago. Well deserved Steve Wood.”
