International Cup of Nice 2012 – results

The 17th international Cup of Nice took place this week from 24 to 28 October.

Former IW skater Charlotte Aiken and ice dance partner Josh Whidborne competed at the event in a class of 13 couples. The entrants for dance originally included current British champions Penny Coomes and Nicholas Buckland, but they withdrew.

Charlotte and Josh were the ninth couple to skate in the short, leading out the third warm-up group. They scored 41.08, placing them seventh with four couples to skate, but slipped two places to ninth after all couples had competed. A score of 67.19 in the free, however, was enough for eighth place overall with a total of 108.27 – just 0.07 ahead of the ninth-placed couple from Poland.

The event was streamed over the internet and video archives are available at http://www.livestream.com/nicecup2012. The stream was viewable using the Livestream iPhone and iPad app and the archives are in theory available via the app by searching for the event.

In the senior ladies, UK skater Katie Powell did well to take 10th overall with 126.88, improving on her 13th place in the short. It’s her first season at senior level, having previously been junior British champion.
