Representatives of all the teams competing at the Spring Cup assembled for the draw at 6.30pm at the Barone di Sassj hotel.
Hot Shivers from host nation Italy drew to determine who would pick first for skate order, with the honours falling to novice IW team Wight Crystals. The Crystals drew number seven, giving them a welcome late start on Saturday morning for official practice and a better chance to recuperate after today’s training.
At junior level, Wight Jewels drew number six, giving them a skate position immediately after the resurface.
Senior team Aura from Lee Valley drew number 12 and will have a late finish to the competition on Saturday night, with only Russian entrants Dream Team and Tatarstan to follow them.
The draw had all the usual excitement, with applause greeting all the teams who had the honour of drawing first in the skate order. And there was the usual relief at drawing positions that meant a late start or early finish, or which guaranteed fresh ice after a resurface.
