Wight Jewels have just completed the second of two practice hours at the Gothenburg rinks, allowing them to adjust to the difference in rink size. The Island’s own rink measures a mere 44m by 22m, way short of the 60m by 30m of Gothenburg’s Frölundaborg Arena, where the 2010 Junior World Challenge Cup takes place. The Jewels have to learn to scale up their two programmes to fill the ice area when they skate, making their task all the harder; the team often heads off to Basingstoke before most competitions to get a better sense of skating on big ice.
