A small but successful team of nine IW skaters competed at the Basingstoke Opens on 26 June, winning two golds, two silvers and one bronze.
Maggie Read continued her winning run by taking another trophy in the beginner ladies aged 12 and over class, with Demi Shree gaining third. Gemma Fishel won the trophy for level 3 ladies aged 12 and over.
The silvers went to Phoena Wilmott-Bayer in the level two ladies 12 and over and to Jemma Southwell, who took her first competition medal in the artistic event.
Our skaters all improved on their previous performances at open competitions, being placed higher in their classes and with some only just missing out on podium places.
Head coach Terri Fleming was pleased to see the improvement in the standard of skating in their free programmes, because our skaters have the disadvantage of training on a small rink and then having to compete on a large surface against other competitors that train every day on larger ice.
