The Finnish national synchronized skating championships take place on 22 to 23 February in Helsinki, with live streaming at sporttv.fi/taitoluistelu. An event pass for both days of streaming costs €10, which is pretty good value to watch two days of synchronized skating performed to the highest of standards: teams competing will include Team Unique, Marigold Ice Unity and the Rockettes at senior level, as well as junior teams Musketeers and Team Fintastic.
The opening ceremony starts at 1.30pm EET (11.30am GMT) on Saturday, novices at 2pm (noon GMT), juniors at 5pm (3pm GMT) and seniors at 7.30pm (5.30pm GMT). On Sunday, the juniors start at 2pm EET (noon GMT) and the seniors at 4.45pm (2.45 GMT).
The Swedish synchro championships also take place this weekend at Aby Stadium, Molndal, Gothenburg: www.laget.se/synkrosm2014, although there appears to be no live broadcast. Results are at: http://skatesweden.wehost.se/13-14/Synchro/SynchroSM/html/index.htm
The senior event at the Swedish championships will apparently be without Team Surprise, who posted on Instagram on 21 February that an accident this week has left two skaters with broken arms, and one with concussion, and with two skaters also sick they feel it is too dangerous to skate. We at iowskaters wish them the speediest of recoveries.
