The 20th French Cup gets under way on Thursday 30 January with the traditional parade of the teams through the streets of Rouen, followed by flashmob and the draw for this synchronized skating competition at the town hall. The skating gets under way on Friday 31st January with the advanced novices at 15:00, the junior short at 16:25 and the senior short at 20:00. On Sunday 1st February the junior free begins at 14:50 and the senior free at 20:00 (all local time).
In previous years the results have been updated on the main French Cup site fairly quickly after a team has skated. TV coverage by France 3 Haute-Normandie has not previously been available on the internet, but keep an eye on haute-normandie.france3.fr/french-cup-2014 just in case there’s an exception for the competition’s 20th year. The French Figure Skating Association implies there is a live internet broadcast, and the TV station has been covering the event in depth so far.
No IW teams are present. The UK, however, is represented across the board, with Team Spirit of Wales and West in the seniors, Nottingham Icicles (twitter.com/TeamIcicles) in the juniors and Nottingham Shadows in the advanced novice. iowskaters wishes them all the best because the competition is very tough, with several top-class Finnish teams in all three categories. The strains of Maamme will inevitably be heard – sing along, everyone should know the words by now. 🙂
