IW synchronized skating teams are in action today in Cardiff in the 2013 Wales & West Synchronized Skating Competition and iowskaters will report results when they are received from the teams.
The teams are currently without Ryde head coach and synchro coach Terri Smith, who gave birth to a boy on Saturday and who is therefore unable to travel to see her other charges in action today.
The event is very much a warm-up competition for the teams and their first chance to see how their programmes are developing and what needs tweaking. With so many new skaters in the junior team in particular, it will take time to reach last season’s peak.
Junior team Wight Jewels scored 22.74 in their short programme and 60.16 in their long, for a total of 82.90 and first place.
Novice team Wight Crystals scored 24.47 for first place in the advanced novice event.
Both Jewels and Crystals were in classes of their own.
Elementary team Wight Sparkles scored 18.85 to finish third in their class, with Altrincham’s Whizz Kids second on 19.21 and Nottingham Silhouettes first on 33.71.
