Three members of the IW figure skating club recently competed in an adult competition in Dunkirk, and came home with a clutch of trophies.
The first event produced a bronze medal for Carol Taverner in the ladies free skating. She followed this with gold in the pairs event, skating with her husband Steve Taverner.
Steve Wood, making his first appearance in an international competition, then won his free skating category, and Carol took gold in the ladies interpretive event.
In the final event of the weekend, Carol and Steve took second place in the pairs interpretive category.
Also competing in the event was Lorna Watson, who learned to skate as a child on the Island. Lorna was representing Whitley Bay at this competition. Lorna had a particularly successful weekend, winning the compulsory and free dance categories and coming second in the artistic competition.
