The synchronized skating events at Deeside IJS Synchronized Skating Competitions and Ice Skate Wales Welsh Championships on 7 to 12 October have been cancelled, according to NISA’s website.
Ice time for the event has been limited by the availability of the technical controller, who has ISU commitments, and insufficient teams are able to compete at the time that is available.
One issue with synchronized skating at Deeside in the past is that it does not count towards NISA’s selection criteria for ISU championship events. Its appeal is therefore reduced to teams at novice, junior and senior levels except as a warm-up event for the British championships.
Ice Skate Wales intends to make the competition a separate event open to all levels next year and further details will be made available once the dates have been confirmed.
The first event for synchronized skating teams this coming season will therefore be the Lee Valley IJS competitions scheduled for 22 October.
